All football fans in this region, regardless of their favourite teams, will recall the year 1991, when Red Star won the European Cup, the most prestigious European football championship at the time. In 1992, the Cup changed its format and the name and became what is today known as the Champions League. Ever since, no Serbian team has ever been able to qualify for this competition, despite some of the great generations of football players in this region and the fans’ interest in this „most important of all unimportant things in life.“
In 2004, only Partizan, lead by Lothar Matthaus, managed to make its way to the Champions League, but this was almost 15 years ago.

However, thanks to its incredible match and a draw in Salzburg, 29 August will be remembered as a historic day for Red Star marking its triumphant comeback in the most prestigious football competition in Europe, and perhaps in the world.

So Belgrade in the months to come will be a proud host of some of the major football clubs in the world. The Serbian capital will see Napoli, Paris St. Germain and Liverpool from England.

Rajko Mitic stadium will first host the team from Italy, Napoli, for its match against Red Star. The match is scheduled for 18 September. The next team to arrive on Marakana stadium is from Paris, as 6 November is reserved for the highly popular PSG, with the main attacker the famous Brazilian, Neymar Jr.
The last match in the group phase of the competition is to take place on 11 December, when we will all be able to hear the famous "You'll Never Walk Alone", one of the most well-known football anthems and at the same time the all-time favourite song of the English football giant Liverpool.
