Spectacular tennis event again in Belgrade
Regional exhibition tennis tournament Adria Tour will be held from June 13 – July 5, 2020 at several locations, with the main creator of the event being the world no.1 – Novak Djokovic.
Along side football and basketball, tennis is definitely one of the most popular sports in this region, especially in the last decade. However, as the entire world was locked down due to still unfinished Covid 19 pandemic, tennis activities, just like all other sports, had to be suspended for several months.
At this particular moment, and to our own pleasure, the world no.1 and one of the best tennis players ever, Novak Djokovic, decided to put into practice his idea to organize an exhibition tournament and host some of the best players in the tennis world. He made a best use of his influence in the world of tennis and organized this regional tournament which will certainly be held in Serbia and Croatia, and very likely in Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in all these locations Djokovic will appear as a participant and host. Some logistical and infrastructural preparations are still in progress and therefore not all locations and participants have been fully confirmed, but apparently the tournament will be held, as already announced, between June 13 and July 5 this year. In addition to Belgrade, the plan is to organize the matches of this exhibition tournament in Zadar, and then in Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the locations have not yet been precisely determined, as well as the exact dates of play.
As for tennis itself, so far it is known that it will be played on clay and that the sets will be shortened to 4 games, and all other details will be defined in the upcoming days.
As far as the players are concerned, in addition to the world no.1, Dominik Thiem, Grigor Dimitrov, Aleksandar Sasa Zverev, Marin Cilic and Borna Coric have also confirmed their participation. There was a possibility for Miloš Raonić to participate, however, due to the whole situation, logistics would be quite a challenge, so Miloš decided to stay on the North American continent. There is a possibility for the participation of some other regional and world tennis stars, but this all will be confirmed in the days ahead.
Due to the current pandemic, it is possible that the matches will not have full live attendance of the audience, due to the existing regulations in the host countries. However, there is great interest in this tournament, and both players and tennis fans are looking forward to it. Although the situation is different than usual, the participants announce tough competition and proper commitment that the audience is expecting.
It is important to emphasize the fact that this is a humanitarian tournament and that all the money collected at the tournament will be forwarded to various humanitarian organizations and projects, at the choice of the tennis players who participate.
As for Belgrade, the tournament will start on June 13 on the courts of the Novak Tennis Center in Dorcol, and we hope that the situation and regulations will allow the presence of a certain number of spectators and spectators next to the court. In any case, this is really an ideal occasion to visit Belgrade and enjoy its charms in a responsible manner, and we hope to enjoy the charms of tennis, as well, provided to us by the top players. So, just in case, you should book your accommodation in Dorcol, so you could be near this major sports event.
